Buying A Wireless Network Kit
|
Do you want to set up a wireless network but you have no idea what components you need or how to begin? If this is the case then you should seriously consider buying a wireless network kit. A wireless network kit commonly contains all that you will ever need in order to set up your network. What exactly are the components of a typical wireless network kit? Wireless Router – This is the component which will connect all of the units of the computer. Think of it as the heart of the system. Instead of blood, however, the wireless router circulates data. The wireless router is the object which makes sure that the right data goes into the right unit. It sets up and organizes the network. As if being the heart was not enough, the wireless router is also the brain of the network. The wireless router actually decides which pathway is best in order to transmit the data from unit to unit. The wireless router determines which transmission method is best to use in order to speed up the connection between units. In wired networks, the router usually has no control regarding the speed of the communication. Wireless Adapters – The wireless adapter is what enables the computers to communicate with the wireless router and through it, with other units in the network. There are generally two types of wireless adapters: PCI cards or USB devices. A wireless adapter card needs to be installed inside the CPU via the PCI card slot. This type of wireless network adapter can be cheap, which is the reason why a lot of people go for it. Another advantage to this type of wireless adapter is the fact that it can actually be protected by the CPU case from physical damage. There is also the USB wireless adapter which only needs to be plugged in via the USB slot. This can be very convenient. USB wireless adapters, however, tend to be more expensive than their card-type cousins. In order to be called a network, more than one unit needs to be connected to the wireless routers. Because of this, a wireless network kit should contain at least two wireless adapters. Commonly, PCI card adapters are provided in wireless network kits since they cost less. Paperwork – The paperwork is what makes the wireless network kit so beneficial to beginners. A wireless network kit commonly contains instructions on how to set up the actual network. This piece of paperwork actually gives detailed instructions from installation of the adapters to the actual connection of the units to the router. Another type of useful information contained in the instruction manual is the troubleshooting guide. The troubleshooting guide outlines common problems experienced by people with a wireless network. It outlines the basic steps needed to be taken in order to fix the problems. It also provides information needed to contact customer support in case the troubleshooting guide proves to be insufficient. Another important piece of paperwork commonly included in the wireless network kit is the warranty. The warranty helps the person make sure that the product he or she brought would be repaired free of charge if something should go wrong with it. This piece of paperwork only works for a limited time but it should nevertheless be kept.
